Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence team for a prison comedy underlined by serious social commentary – wasted lives. Ray Murphy, a pick-pocket and swindler, and Claude Lawrence), a scale that live bank teller, are complete opposites, which intersect in a 1932 Harlem nightclub. In order to pay their debts to local crime lord, the mismatched pair travel to the deep south on a moon of delivery only to be accused for the murder of a racist Southern cop. Sentenced to life in a state of Mississippiprison, the bickering duo spend the next 65 years trading barbs and planning their escape, forming an unlikely but touching friendship. They manage to escape in their corpses for replacing an arson-fire – and eventually the film together, watching a Yankees game together. There are some good laughs, but is not what one would expect from two comedians – is more a film of friendship that develops over time.

Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy play it surprisingly straight in this film by director Ted Demme. Though there are laughs to be had, this is a story about perseverance in the face of a life of disappointment (yet the film was sold as a prison comedy). But IStir Crazy/I this isn’t. Rather, Lawrence and Murphy play a couple of New Yorkers making a moonshine run from New York to Mississippi during the Prohibition who find themselves framed for murder and sentenced for life to a prison chain gang. As they age, the two become close friends, although the strait-laced Lawrence always resents the free-wheeling Murphy for getting him into the situation in the first place. Ultimately, these two men learn to find meaning where they can, taking value from friendship and their limited ability to affect the lives of others. At times preachy, it ends on an upbeat note; the film’s biggest laughs are reserved for the final section, in which Lawrence and Murphy don age makeup and play octogenarians. I–Marshall Fine/I

The film did not work, I sent an e-mail to the person who sold it to me and never heard from them. So I received a Christmas present for my son who would not play when he opened it and I was out the money I spent! Not very happy, can not order a DVD or CD from the site again.

This is a great film, but it is banned as a comedy and the drama that has more comedy. Two of my favorite actors, Laurence Martin and Eddie Murphy are excellent, but the film is fun and not as it appears on the cover.
