This fax is so noisy that I had to get up in the middle of the night and pull the plug. You can start and tools to eat and ride a bike before exercising 3:30 am, but since I did not set the hour of the day, you should only do this to annoy me. It 'really sounds like is chewing itself and, therefore, I doubt that will last much longer. Fortunately it was not that expensive, but the HP Fax will not be replaced with another HP product.

It 'been a great fax until misplaced the power cord. I was totally incapable of finding a replacement cable with HP or any other online source. So I am now able to use it. Do not miss the power cord.

Got this to replace a fax much older. The first time I hooked it up, I kept getting error messages that jam the card, even if I had not put the paper in the tray. I disconnected from the power source and phone line and I wondered what kind of lemon that I bought for our department. A couple of days later, I hooked up and went through all the start-up without a hitch. It works well and is well worth the price I paid. The only drawback is the tray does not hold much paper.

Like the fact that the 3180 is relatively compact. Faxes crossed very fresh and clean. However, I am using a single black cartridge for a week … which has become very expensive. HP touts that you should be able to get 120 fax / copies per cartridge. Do not believe it! You can adjust the volume for incoming faxes but not outgoing. The output volume is so loud, you can not be in the same room as the machine. So, $ 78 is a good price for the unit, but the $ 780 a year for the ink is not acceptable.
