It took me 25 years to get around the reading of this masterpiece of American fiction and I'm sorry that it took so long: I was stunned. Toole was a literary genius and this comical farce is a testament to its brilliance. The central character is Ignatius Reilly, who is a unique creation of literature. You can look high and low with all the literature and not find another character, Ignatius is a singularity. Toole brings most of the main characters in the story in the first 20pages. And the dialogues are so good that you always know what he's talking about character. The story takes place in New Orleans and Toole captures the nuances of dialect in the city. br / br / And it is a great city to host this bizarre adventure. Ignatius is a disciple of the great philosopher late antiquity, Boethius, except that Ignatius lived in the 20th century! in New Orleans! The Wheel of Fortune, an important concept for Boethius, turns and finds himself tormented by IgnazioPolice, working for a sinking pants-maker, and selling hot dogs on the streets of New Orleans. But not only characters (Burma Jones is a creation of genius) and a good dialogue that make this book work. Toole ties with the short story, seductive descriptions of people and places. A classic (in my mind) is when he describes Lana, the owner of the Bar, Night of Joy, Fondling money he received for the sale of pornographic images. Toole describes her as a priestess hosting company (here acurrency) and taken to the sky as cigarette smoke (this happens on a bar counter), curls up like incense in a medieval rite.br / br / A major subplot is a love story – if one can say — Ignatius and a girl radical, Myrna. Shares of Ignatius are largely motivated by the desire to impress Myna. But beware, this is unlike any love story you'll find elsewhere. Do not wait 25 years before diving into this farce as big as I did. Experience and a classicready to chuckle.

Still Have Memories (Bad) About This Book – asfhgwt – PA, USA
A friend of mine gave me this bad to read while I was in hospital about 30 years ago. E 'was new at the time, and much praised. I could not stand it. The novel was boring, amateurish and unreadable, obviously written by a talented person. (The first chapter felt like trying to run a marathon in quicksand.) I still can not understand why it was published, except perhaps to show that the winners of the Pulitzer Prize is usually overestimated. Awful.

To set the foundation for my review, imagine a high school burned down, entering his first year of college. Years of English classes have squeezed everything possible enjoyment of reading, with their endless analysis, critical minutes, and the alleged high-this was one of the reasons I was going to be an engineering major. At the end of my first term, my roommate suggested I read this, saying it was the best book I ever read. Now, up to this point, my approach to reading wasdestroyed. I want to read all the small details, losing sight of the beauty of the novel: after all, there must be a test at the end, right? However, a band of idiots just completely changed my view of the world, has revitalized my love for reading, something I missed from 8th grade. I can not be happier that I got my hands on this book, and I hope that you get the same opportunity!
